FAQ

Is Botox safe?

Yes. Botox has been used for over 30 years for a variety of different conditions, with no long term problems or side effects.

How does Botox work?

Botox (Vistabel) is injected using tiny needles into the muscles of the face that are responsible for the line or wrinkle. There, the Botox (Vistabel) prevents the release of a chemical called acetylcholine which is responsible for causing the muscle to contract. This will cause the muscle to relax thereby causing the line or wrinkle to diminish or disappear so causing a natural relaxed look.

Does Botox hurt?

Usually No. As the needles used are so fine most people report only very mild temporary discomfort -if any at all.

Who is suitable for Botox (Vistabel)?

At your consultation a full medical history will be obtained and your face assessed as to the suitability of Botox (Vistabel) or other treatments. In general terms, anybody who is not pregnant or breast feeding, doesn’t suffer from certain neuromuscular disorders, isn’t taking certain antibiotics and does not have any infection of the skin at the site of the proposed injection, is suitable for Botox (Vistabel). Patients should not fly within 24 hours of receiving Botox treatment.

How long will Botox last?

Improvement usually starts after around 2-4days, with the greatest improvement achieved by 2-3 weeks. The effect will usually last 3-5 months. Subsequent injections tend to work better and last longer.

What happens if I don't have a follow up treatment of Botox?

If you don't have a follow up treatment, your face will gradually return to its original pre-treatment state

Can I return to work afterwards?

After the injection there are no restrictions on driving or returning to work etc. However, as some people may experience some localised bruising or swelling (which usually settles in 1-2 hours) they may prefer not to return to work straight after.

Can Botox be used in combination with other treatments?

Yes. Botox (Vistabel) can be used after surgical face lifts, in combination with skin fillers and after chemical peels.

Are there any side effects of Botox?

Botox (Vistabel) is a very safe treatment with no long term problems or side effects. Side effects are rare and temporary. The most common side effects are bruising and swelling at the injection sites. Rare side effects include headaches and temporary drooping of the eyelids.
