Sun Damaged Skin

As well as causing increased pigmentation in the skin, excess exposure to either Sun Light or use of a Sun-bed or Sun-Lamp will lead to signs of ageing of the skin in a process known as Photoageing. Indeed many of the signs attributed to aging are actually manifestations of sun damage (this is most obviously demonstrated by comparing the skin at a site that is rarely exposed to the sun (such as around the armpits) with an area that is frequently exposed to sun (such as the hands)

The overall appearance of the skin can be improved by a series of chemical skin peels. These work by removing old and dead cells from the surface of the skin and stimulating the production of new fresh cells from the deeper layers of the skin. The peel should also help remove some of the excess pigmentation (freckles and lentigo) that has resulted and even out some of the redness (erythema), as well as stimulating the production of collagen in the skin to smooth out some of the fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment works particularly well on the face and hands and can also be used on other parts of the body.
